What began as a passion project has grown into something much bigger: Bold Voices. At its core, it’s about embracing creativity that is playful, boundary-pushing, and unapologetically bold.
The idea for Bold Voices emerged from a moment of pure, spontaneous creativity. I had written a song, White Picket Fence and a Labrador, in a short space of time and, using university resources, brought it to life as a music video in the film and production studio, with the encouragement and guidance of Karen Milam, Film Production Senior Technician.
The experience was rare, beautiful, and uniquely inspiring—fully embracing the unknown and diving into things you hadn’t yet learned to do.
I began to ask: what if students could have the same opportunity? What if a project could cross disciplines, bringing together peers, lecturers, technicians, and industry partners, and open doors to areas they might never otherwise explore?
Play isn’t just a process, it’s a mindset that sparks ideas, challenges norms, and brings people together giving people the space to explore and share their own voices, visions, and creativity.

Bold Voices was born. As a queer creator, I wanted to provide platforms for those often in the minority, where they could explore their own stories and creative potential. Students collaborate to write an original song and shape their identity through mask making, prop and outfit design, fashion photography, and ultimately art direction for their own music video.
Our role as lecturers, technicians, and industry partners is to facilitate, guide, and provide the tools and support along the way. The result? A final song and music video that is entirely theirs—a true celebration of their voice, vision, and creativity.
