The visual identity for Bold Voices was developed to communicate the group's desire for a lo-fi, raw, and nature-led aesthetic rooted in vulnerability, authenticity, and a diaristic sense of lived, fleeting moments. From the outset, the project centred around personal experiences, queer journeys, and honest storytelling, which informed every aspect of the creative direction.

The song's title, Spring, sparked the initial conceptual direction. This led to an exploration of pollen as both a visual and symbolic device. Through the lens of Queer Ecology, nature is understood as fluid, interconnected, and resistant to rigid grouping. Rather than representing fixed identities, pollen embodies cross-pollination, adaptation, and growth. It became a powerful metaphor for queer resilience, fluid identities, and the ability to thrive through change and connection.

The typeface Redaction was selected for titles and key copy due to its raw, imperfect, and unrefined qualities. Its distressed appearance reflects the project's emphasis on authenticity over polish, mirroring the vulnerability present within the music and stories being shared.

The colour palette remains intentionally restrained, punctuated by subtle seasonal spring tones derived from the flowers chosen by each member of the group. These flowers became both symbolic and visual anchors within the identity, representing individual experiences while contributing to a collective narrative.

Layout compositions deliberately shift in orientation and structure, creating a fluid and dynamic visual language. This approach reflects themes of coming out, personal transformation, and the non-linear nature of queer identity and self-discovery.

Graphic elements were developed from the pollen, generating a bespoke visual system that connects each member's story back to the overarching concept.

As a designer working on a project rooted in lived experiences that were not my own, it was important to approach the process with sensitivity, listening carefully to the group's ideas, stories, and aspirations.

Language throughout the project draws on themes of blooming, growth, optimism, and self-acceptance.

Photography and videography adopt a diaristic, lo-fi aesthetic, capturing moments in an honest and intimate way. This visual approach reflects the direction the group wanted to pursue from the beginning: something personal, unfiltered, and emotionally resonant.

The pollen concept emerged from those conversations and provided a framework that could hold multiple narratives simultaneously. Its fluid, adaptive, and interconnected qualities offered a meaningful way to visualise the diverse experiences within Bold Voices while celebrating individuality, community, and the beauty of becoming.

"Like pollen carried on the wind, queer identities are not fixed but constantly evolving, shaped through movement, connection, resilience, and the courage
to bloom in unexpected places."
